Illustrated map titled 'Postcards from the Peaks' featuring a hiker with a backpack and walking poles. The map shows a route with starting point marked as 'START' and 15 numbered red mailboxes spread across a stylized map of a country. A vehicle labeled 'Postcards from the Peaks' is also on the map. Handwritten phrases like 'Thinking of you,' 'How are you?,' 'Wish you were here!,' and 'Let's catch up!' are present.

POSTCARDS from the PEAKS

Hi, I’m Stu and I’ll be carrying a cast, iron Royal Mail Post Box to the highest point in all 15 of the National parks in the UK to raise awareness of loneliness and funds for charity.

My mission:

Postcards from the Peaks is a travelling postbox and a set of free community walks across all 15 National Parks. I’m carrying a 26kg Royal Mail postbox to each highest point. My mission is to raise awareness of loneliness and funds for charity. People join me to walk, talk and write postcards that I then post. If you are feeling lonely, you can request a postcard and we will send one to you. I also visit schools and community groups to talk and facilitate conversations about loneliness, and to help people write and send postcards.

HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED

  • Come along for an adventure! Whether you're an experienced walker or just fancy giving it a go, everyone is welcome. Visit our dedicated walks page to find details about upcoming hikes, meeting points, and what you'll need to bring. You can also explore all our routes on our Komoot page. See you on a Peak!

  • Brighten someone's day by sending a postcard from one of the UK's highest peaks. Simply fill out our quick form, choose your recipient, and Stu will personally typewrite and send your thoughtful message. Your small gesture could make someone's day!

  • Would you like the joy of receiving a typewritten postcard delivered through your letterbox? Request one here, and Stu will personally send a typewritten postcard your way. A small, meaningful moment of connection arriving right at your door.

  • Postcards from the Peaks is about sparking meaningful connections and tackling loneliness, one step, one story, and one postcard at a time.

This campaign has been entirely self funded. I’m living full time in a half converted van, carrying a cast iron postbox to the highest peak in every UK national park, sending postcards, running community walks, visiting schools, and having conversations that really matter. There’s no big organisation backing me. It’s just me, driven by a genuine belief that what I’m doing makes a difference.

BBC News feature on Postcards from the Peaks.

Since starting with a 26 kg Royal Mail postbox, I have completed 8 peaks. Over 200 people have joined the walks, 500+ postcards have been sent, and I set up postcard exchanges between primary schools. The project has been featured on BBC News, ITV News and GB News. The campaign reached thousands of people on social media.

Next up: more peaks in parks with my postbox, more walks open to all, and more postcards landing when and where they are needed most.

Make a donation

Postcards from the Peaks is about sparking meaningful connections and tackling loneliness one step, one story and one postcard at a time.

The campaign has so far been self funded. I’m carrying a cast iron postbox to the highest peak in every UK national park, running free community walks, sending postcards to people who are lonely or vulnerable, visiting schools and creating postcard exchanges between pupils. Over 200 people have joined the walks already and more than 500 postcards have been sent. The message has reached millions of people across the country. Together, our impact has been huge.

Our goal is to raise £10,000. Every penny goes directly to our registered charity Head Outside which was created to speak meaningful connections and conversations for better mental health (RCN 1212781). Donations will fund more free community walks and events, bursaries to help people access them, school visits, mental health and wellbeing training, and the printing and postage of postcards. Nothing comes to me personally.

By supporting Postcards from the Peaks, you are helping us keep everything free and accessible while reaching even more people who need connection.

The Journey in pictures so far

About Stu

I am an expedition leader, mental health trainer, public speaker and the founder of Head Outside which run the Head Outside Awards. My mission in life is to spark meaningful connections and conversations to improve our wellbeing. I have led expeditions on six continents in 54 countries and walked thousands of miles, including the Appalachian Trail, the Jordan Trail, the Seven Summits Sinai Trail as the first person to thru hike it, the Camino and the Colorado Trail.

I started Postcards from the Peaks after a rough spell that left me lonely, isolated and stuck in a rut. An impulsive charity auction bid on a 26 kg Royal Mail postbox became the spark I needed. I started this journey to bring more joy and connection into my life. Now people join me to walk, talk and send postcards so loneliness feels a little lighter.
